Wilkinson teacher accused of inappropriate conduct with student

Published: January 28, 2013

A Wilkinson County High School teacher was arrested Monday following an investigation into allegations that he had inappropriate contact with a student.

The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Department charged Cornelius Dante Jones with child molestation, according to a Monday night news release from Wilkinson County schools. He was at the Wilkinson County Law Enforcement Center Monday night.

The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Department questioned the teacher earlier Monday, according to an earlier news release.

The teacher submitted a letter of resignation, which has not been formally approved by the Wilkinson County Board of Education, according to the school district.

Administrators at Wilkinson County High helped with the investigation, but school officials are referring further questions to the Wilkinson County Sheriff Richard Chatman, who could not be reached Monday night.

“Any allegation of harm against a student is taken seriously and we are working with the proper authorities as they investigate,” Superintendent Aaron Geter said via news release.
