A Jones County couple escaped without injury from a fire in their house Sunday evening, officials said.

Jones County firefighters responded to a call at 9:53 p.m. on Hungerford Road in Bradley about a single-story, wood-framed house was on fire. It took more than an hour to put out the fire.

Homeowners Shirley Simmons and Herbert Driskell were asleep when the fire started, and both managed to get out safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
