ATHENS - Another starting offensive lineman has undergone offseason surgery and will be out at least part of spring practice.

John Theus, the starter for every game at right tackle this past season, had surgery on his right foot on Wednesday. UGA said the surgery was to repair a 5th metatarsal fracture in his right foot.

As for his recovery time, the Bulldogs say Theus will miss "at least part" of spring practice. That means the starters on the right side of the line will be out for the start of spring practice: Right guard Chris Burnette, who had shoulder surgery, is out for all of spring practice.

Theus and Burnette are expected to make full recoveries in time for preseason practice, according to the team.

The news means that inexperienced players will get at least get more snaps in practice, as the team tries to build depth on the line - and perhaps find a new starter or two. Theus and Burnette are almost sure bets to start, along with David Andrews at center, and Kenarious Gates at either guard or left tackle.

Dallas Lee is hoping to hold onto a starting spot at guard, while Mark Beard is making a push for a spot at left tackle, which would result in Gates moving to guard and supplanting Lee. But Austin Long is also going to be in the mix for a spot - along with more inexperienced linemen, such as Greg Pyke, Xzavier Ward and early enrollees Aulden Bynum and Josh Cardiello.

And if the team can reel in top recruit Laremy Tunsil, he will compete for a starting job at tackle when he arrives in the summer.
