WARNER ROBINS -- A tire apparently blew, causing the driver of a van to lose control in a fatal accident Tuesday on Interstate 75 near Perry, the Georgia State Patrol says.
Miguel Rodriguez, 54, of Homestead, Fla., was killed in the single-vehicle crash, said GSP Sgt. 1st Class Mike Maynard. The victims wife, Ana Rodriguez, 53, who was driving, was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia for non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
Ana Rodriguez was listed in stable condition at the hospital Wednesday, hospital spokeswoman Janie Poulnott said.
The crash happened about 3 p.m. at mile marker 133 just south of Perry Parkway, Maynard said.
The couple was traveling north on I-75 when the tire apparently blew, she lost control, and the van struck the guardrail in the median, Maynard said. Miguel Rodriguez was ejected from the vehicle, Maynard said.
The accident closed one northbound lane for about two hours, he said.
