Autopsy: Baldwin County baby found in shallow grave in October drowned

Published: January 23, 2013

Autopsy results show a Baldwin County newborn found in a shallow grave in October drowned.

Baldwin County Sheriff Bill Massee said deputies will meet with prosecutors to review the case and determine whether any new charges should be brought against the child’s mother, 23-year-old Brittany Palmer.

The autopsy didn’t go into detail as to how the baby drowned, Massee said.

Palmer was charged last fall with concealing a death and giving false statements in the days after her father found the baby’s body on his Lakemere Lane property Oct. 17.

Palmer’s didn’t know his daughter had been pregnant until after he found the baby’s body, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined Palmer carried the child to full term, gave birth alone in a bathtub and then buried the child, Massee said.

Attempts to reach Brittany Palmer for comment were unsuccessful Wednesday.

She was released on $10,000 bond Nov. 16, according to the sheriff’s office.
