Riverside Drive traffic crash cleared

Published: January 23, 2013

No one was seriously injured Wednesday morning when a Georgia State Patrol car collided with a Ford Expedition on Riverside Drive at about 8:30 a.m.

The trooper was headed northbound in the left lane near College Street when he clocked a southbound vehicle traveling 71 mph in a 45 mph zone. He veered into the right lane to attempt a U-turn and stop the speeding car, said GSP Sgt. Steve Harrison.

A Ford Expedition that had been traveling behind the trooper in the left northbound lane struck the patrol car on the driver side during the turn, Harrison said.

The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Hudson Street, clogged traffic Wednesday morning although the road was blocked for only 10 minutes.

The crash remains under investigation.
