Northeast building to bear Al Lucas' name

Published: January 18, 2013

Northeast High School will rename its field house for Al Lucas, a former football star at that school and the late son of local political figures Elaine and David Lucas.

The Bibb County Board of Education voted 8-0 on Thursday to name the building in Al Lucas’ memory. After his high school prominence, he went on to become an All-American at Troy State University and a professional football player.

Al Lucas died in 2005 while playing in an Arena Football League game for the Los Angeles Avengers, leaving behind a wife and daughter.

Elaine Lucas is a Macon city councilwoman and David Lucas is state senator for District 26.
