Hiram Davis didn’t believe his eyes when he first checked Wednesday’s Fantasy 5 winning numbers at the grocery store.

The Monroe County man called the Georgia Lottery’s hot line to confirm his $285,000 jackpot.

Davis, a 65-year-old retired subcontractor, matched all five winning numbers on the Quik Pik ticket he purchased at Rum Creek Convenience Store, on Ga. 87 in Juliette.

He claimed his prize Thursday at the Georgia Lottery district office in Macon.

“I feel pretty good,” he said in a news release from the Georgia Lottery.

Davis and his wife, Jo, plan to buy a new truck, the release stated.
