Macon police are trying to find out who smashed through the glass door of the Dollar Tree at 1451 Gray Highway.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday, police got a call from workers who found the break-in as they arrived to open the discount store near Wal-Mart.
One of the two front doors was smashed and initial reports indicate a safe was stolen, but police on the scene said it was too premature to comment on the case.
The store remained closed with yellow crime-scene tape stretched across the sidewalk as a police investigator arrived.
The burglary happened some time after employees closed the store at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Dollar Tree reopened at about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
