A conditional-use application to allow a group home for at-risk children in southwest Bibb County was approved Monday with no opposition.

The application was approved by four members of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission. Member Damon King was absent.

The applicant, Selena Hudgins, plans to care for six children, 12 to 18 years old, in a 2,000-square-foot house Hudgins owns at 2490 Heath Road.

Care would be provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a staff of four people, including Hudgins. Two adults at a time would work 12-hour shifts, she said. “A lot of kids have a lot of bad situations,” Hudgins told commissioners. Children would be referred to the home by the Department of Family and Children Services and not by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

In another matter, a conditional-use application for a nightclub called the Pub at 567 Cherry St. was withdrawn prior to Monday’s meeting.
