ATHENS - It's still not known whether Mike Bobo had any interviews to be a head coach, but it is evident now that at least one school wanted him to lead its offense.

Virginia Tech had enough interest in Bobo to be its offensive coordinator that it sent a plane to Athens last week. But Bobo never got on the plane, according to this report.

A source at Georgia confirmed that report, along with ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach's tweet on Saturday that Bobo turned down Virginia Tech.

Bobo, who currently earns about $300,000 annually, on a one-year contract, is probably due for a raise. The next meeting of the UGA athletic board is in February.

"Mark (Richt) and I continue to have discussions about that topic," Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity said of his head football coach. "And we'll continue to have discussions on that matter."

Bobo used to bear the brunt of criticism from fans, upset with the play-calling. But Georgia's offense set records this year, and led the nation in yards-per-play.

"I'm not surprised that other institutions have shown an interest in Mike, due to the outstanding job that our staff has done with our offense," McGarity said.

Virginia Tech's head coach is Frank Beamer, and Bobo is known to be close with Shane Beamer, who is the Hokies' running backs coach.
