Three people died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle wreck at a service station at the corner of Pio Nono and Houston avenues, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.
Jones identified the victims as Sherry Bishop, 38, of Morton Road in Gray; Derwin Durden, 45, of Caney Creek Parkway in Covington; and Temple Dumas, 40, of Raleigh, N.C.
According to a Macon Police Department release, Bishop was driving a 2004 Chevy Impala north on Pio Nono at a high rate of speed when she approached the intersection and lost control. The vehicle went up a curve, struck a yield sign and flipped over, ejecting Dumas. It then struck a utility pole at the northbound entrance of the Marathon gas station, causing it to flip again and eject Durden. The vehicle landed on its roof, trapping Bishop behind the steering wheel.
Bishop had to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, as was Durden. Dumas, Bishops cousin, was later pronounced dead at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
