A man being sought by Macon police for an attempted sexual assault at the Dove Center, a shelter run by the Macon Rescue Mission, turned himself in to authorities Thursday afternoon, according to a police news release.

Javorian Quintarius Sims, 19, surrendered to police at 2:30 p.m., the news release said. He is being charged with sexual assault and simple battery.

The charges stem from an incident that took place Monday at the Dove Center, 774 Hazel St. Sims allegedly made contact with a 22-year-old woman while attending a GED class. The woman told an officer she was sexually assaulted after leaving the classroom en route to the ladies room. The woman said the suspect grabbed her in a sexual manner and threatened her.
