Krystal Almaraz pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the Jan. 14, 2012, death of Gabriel Contreras. On July 10, a Bibb County Superior judge sentenced her to 20 years in prison. Contreras was shot six times in the cheek, chest, pelvis and thigh, prosecutor Nancy Scott Malcor said. Witness credibility concerns prompted the district attorneys office to strike a plea deal with Almarazs lawyer that she would plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in exchange for 20 years, the maximum penalty for the charge, Malcor said.
