Macon man dies in single-car wreck

Published: December 30, 2012

A Macon man died early Sunday morning in a single-car accident after his vehicle struck a pole, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Jones said the victim, David Coley, 39, of Mary Drive, was driving a 1996 Chevy Impala at the intersection of Mercer University Drive and Columbus Road. Coley apparently lost control of the vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. and struck the pole at a very high rate of speed, Jones said.

Jones said the car didn’t belong to Coley, and the owner of the vehicle said it was supposed to be at a repair shop. The owner told Jones he had no idea how Coley got possession of the car.

Jones said a toxicology test on Coley would be conducted Monday.
