Grammy Award nominee John Berry is returning to Macon on Saturday to perform what has become a highly anticipated annual tradition. Each year, due to his love of Christmas, Berry tours in the days leading up to the holiday, and concludes his tour in Macon.
This year will mark the anniversary of the release of his album O Holy Night and the 16th year of this tour. In his career, Berry has charted 19 songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including Your Love Amazes Me, Whats In It for Me, You and Only You, Standing on the Edge of Goodbye, I Think About It All the Time, Change My Mind and Shes Taken a Shine.
Cindy Hill, arts marketing director for the Grand Opera House, endorsed the show with enthusiasm.
We are so excited that John Berry comes to the Grand Opera House every year. It is always such an amazing performance and really touches the hearts of our audience. Its a great way to celebrate the holidays with this concert at the Grand. Its a wonderful evening for all ages with one of the first country crossover artists of our time, she said.
John Berrys holiday concert has entertained thousands of people at the Grand over the years, said Betsy Fitzgerald, executive director of the Grand. Besides being a great singer and songwriter, he is also a great man. We look forward to welcoming him back to Macon!
For Berry, the Christmas concert is special, as it provides him with a chance to share his faith and, according to his website, he views his performances as part of his walk with Christ, (where) his calling has been to share Gods love with his audience and offers his tenor voice as an instrument that is able to touch all hearts.
Recently, Berry celebrated his 25th release and first full-length Christian project. His new album, RealMan. RealLife. RealGod., is available at retail locations and on www.johnberry.com.
Audiences love this concert, Hill said. It is always a sellout and people come out in droves to celebrate with song and good company what the season means to them -- family, friends and faith. Berry will fill the space with music, love, laughter and childhood stories only the way he can tell them, making this an event not to be missed. While this may not be an extravaganza of special effects, Berry always delivers a deep and meaningful magic all the same. Its just a really special and very beautiful event. It touches peoples hearts.
As his Facebook page shows, Berry enjoys this tour, taking time to meet up with Santa in various cities across the Southeast and celebrating the season with fans. His fans clearly enjoy the tour as well, often times asking about new tour dates before the dust has even faded behind the tour bus as it pulls out of the venue. No one who has ever heard his voice, soaring into the night, questions their loyalty.
