There had not been a change on the Georgia coaching staff in nearly two years.

That changed late Thursday, when Auburn announced that Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner joined new head coach Gus Malzahn’s staff.

“We (are) excited to announce Rodney Garner as our assistant head coach and defensive line coach,” Malzahn said in a news release. “Rodney is one of the top defensive line coaches in college football who has had great success in the Southeastern Conference. We are excited to welcome an Auburn man back home.”

Garner was present at Georgia’s practices all week, including Thursday.
