Northside senior Hassan wins at West Laurens

Sun News correspondentDecember 12, 2012

Northside senior Shaady Hassan won the 132-pound division of the 2012 West Laurens Invitational Saturday in Dublin. Hassan lost once in the preliminaries -- to an athlete from Florida -- but still earned a spot in the tournament semifinals.

“That got it out of the way,” Northside wrestling coach Dan Kelly said of Hassan’s early loss. “It gave us a good gauge of where Shaady really is.”

Hassan never got his chance at revenge, but he did decision a Chattooga wrestler in the title bout, 10-2.

Graham Bolton of Northside finished fourth in the 113-pound division as the Eagles finished eighth overall out of 23 teams.

West Laurens won the team portion of the tournament. Flagler Palm Coast High School of Florida finished second.

Perry High produced three medalists at the tournament and finished sixth. Derekston Williams (145 pounds) earned a second-place finish and went 6-1 for the meet. Michael Felder (220) also went 6-1 and took third. Tal Lineberger (120) finished fourth.
