ABC's recent decision to show "Shark Tank" on Tuesdays seemed to be a good one, as the show earned solid ratings for the night.
So here's a thought: Keep "Shark Tank" on Tuesdays, where its built-in and growing audience can watch the show, and move ABC's struggling sitcoms, "Happy Endings" and "Don't Trust The B--" to Fridays.
Though both shows showed a slight uptick in numbers this past week, the outlook doesn't seem to be good, which is a shame. "Happy Endings" is a funny show that seems to improve each season (not to mention it stars the fabulous Casey Wilson), and "B--" is one of the more innovative sitcoms on TV.
Unfortunately, the shows square off with NBC's "Go On" (the top-rated new sitcom of the season) and "The New Normal," not to mention Fox's hit "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project."
ABC has been trying to establish a comedy beachhead on Fridays, with "Last Man Standing" and "Malibu Country," and this would give the network something akin to its "TGIF" lineup of the '90s.
I enjoy all three ABC programs immensely, and I don't want to see the sitcoms go away. So it's worth considering other options.
WEEKEND'S BEST BETS: CBS announced this week it will air the midseason replacement drama, "Golden Boy," about NYC's youngest-ever police commissioner. Funny, I thought the network already had the city's PC in Frank Regan (Tom Selleck) on "Blue Bloods" (CBS, 10 p.m.), which follows a new "Undercover Boss" and "CSI: NY."
"Fringe" (Fox, 9 p.m.) is back after a three-week layoff, and the CW has a new "Nikita" at 8 p.m.
On cable, it's the season finale for "Hunted" (MAX, 10 p.m.) Meanwhile, Sundance airs the two-part miniseries "Restless" at 9 p.m. It follows a woman (Michelle Dockery) in 1976 who learns her mother (Charlotte Rampling) was a spy during WWII. It also stars Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell and Michael Gambon.
On Sunday, "The Amazing Race" wraps up at 8 p.m. with a two-hour finale. Anyone but the twin sisters at this point, as they may be the most irritating (not to mention cheaters) team the show has ever had. Seriously, I want to hit the mute button every time they are on. It's followed by a new "Mentalist" at 10 p.m.
Fox's sitcoms are new.
On cable, I'm already missing "The Walking Dead," but I still have new episodes of "Dexter" and "Homeland" from 9-11 p.m. on Showtime.
