The Perry Players are performing “Southern Hospitality,” a sequel to “Christmas Belles,” performed last year during December.

“Christmas Belles” was the story of three sisters in a small Texas town. Although not set during the holidays, “Southern Hospitality” is a continuation of the story of the sisters five years later.

Instead of a Christmas play, the story focuses on a town festival.

In “Christmas Belles,” the three sisters are engaged in very different activities -- one is trying to stage a Christmas program at the church, one is in jail and the other is expecting twins at any moment.

“It is different craziness this time around,” said Christina Pykles, a member of the cast. “The sister that was putting on the play is now putting on the festival to help save the dying little town. The sister that was in jail is out, but now she is trying to (trick) the sheriff into a wedding, and the sister that had twins is dealing with her husband having a major midlife crisis and her twins are now 5 and wreaking havoc.”

While not a Christmas play, Pykles said Perry Players choose to do “Southern Hospitality” now because of the tie-in to last year’s “Christmas Belles.”

“Everybody remembers the last one,” said Pykles. “The cast was so excited about it. It is the same crazy characters in another mad situation, with one thing on top of another.”

Pykles said the play, which basically revolves around the sisters trying to save their hometown, is especially relatable for audience members.

“The way the economy is, it is easy to see how important it is for them to pull off this festival,” she said. “But nothing goes right when these sisters are involved.”

“Southern Hospitality” is being directed by Linda Deibert, who also directed “Christmas Belles.” Most of the same actors also are returning.
