A little bit of everything will be on display Sunday afternoon at the annual Middle Georgia Christmas Parade in Macon.

The Cherry Blossom court, community groups and Santa will make up some of the 100 entries expected in this year’s parade, which starts at 3 p.m.

“Of course, we will have some of the (fire department) ladder trucks,” said Mechel McKinley, manager of Main Street Macon, which is sponsoring the parade. “Those are always a big hit with the kids.”

This is the parade’s 53rd year and the second year it has been organized by Main Street Macon.

“There are bands from all of the different high schools,” McKinley said. “We’ll have a representative from (Robins) Air Force Base. We have a pet rescue group. We have the Forestry Queen. We have lots of different Boy Scout troops and Girl Scout troops.”

The parade will begin on Cherry Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and continue to First Street and then back down Mulberry Street. The parade typically lasts about an hour and a half, McKinley said.

“It will have Santa at the end,” she said.

Main Street Macon is focused on collaborating with other organizations to continue the revitalization of downtown Macon. As part of that mission, the parade is an opportunity for the community to check out downtown during the parade, McKinley said.

“A number of our restaurants will be open as well as some of our shops, so it’s a great opportunity to come out early and have a late lunch with your friends and stay and enjoy the parade,” she said.

“Or come to the parade and stay out after and have a bite to eat.”

There also will be vendors selling speciality items during the parade.

“It’s a great family event where we can celebrate the different parts of our community and start off the holiday season with our friends and family in celebrating the holidays,” McKinley said. “It’s important for our community.”

Pulling off the parade requires the efforts of Public Works, the Parks & Recreation department and the Macon Police Department, McKinley said.

“It really is a great community effort of a lot of different organizations that come together,” she said.
