A Twiggs County man died following a traffic accident shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday in east Macon.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said 71-year-old Billy Fain was taken to the emergency room at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, but medical personnel were not able to revive him.

Fain went off the road in the 3000 block of Ocmulgee East Blvd.

Robert Giddings, who witnessed the accident at the Eastside Flea Market, said the man might have suffered a medical emergency that caused him to leave the road.

Fain’s emergency flashers were on when the pickup clipped a wrecker parked near the road and a metal railing at Freeman’s Enterprises at 3040 Ocmulgee East Blvd., Giddings said.

At the flea market at the corner of Riggins Mill Road, the pickup smashed into a panel truck, a tractor and toilets for sale, he said.

Rescuers performed CPR at the scene before taking him away in the ambulance, he said.

Jones said Fain had a heart condition, but no autopsy was planned to pinpoint the cause of death.
