Fire destroys apartment building in Perry

Published: December 4, 2012

A fire destroyed a building at a Perry apartment complex Monday morning, displacing several residents.

The building housed seven units as well as the office for Heritage Apartments at 100 Ashley Drive, said Fire Chief Joel Gray.

Perry firefighters responding to the 10:18 a.m. fire found the single-story building ablaze, which was brought under control within about 90 minutes, Gray said. Firefighters were on scene for about three hours.

No people were hurt in the fire, but a tenant did lose one of her two cats in the blaze, Gray said.

The cause of the fire may not be determinable due to the extensive damage, but no foul play is suspected, Gray said.

The complex had 12 buildings. Another apartment building was destroyed by a fire Feb. 29.

The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents, Gray said.
