ATHENS - Jarvis Jones is the SEC defensive player of the year, and Todd Gurley is an all-SEC first-teamer as a freshman.

Those were the headlines for Georgia as the Associated Press announced its year-end SEC football awards. Jones is now a two-time all-SEC first-team selection, and is the first Georgia player to win AP defensive player of the year since David Pollack, who did it in 2003 and 2004.

Jones beat out South Carolina sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, the SEC leader with 13 sacks. Jones is tied for second with 12.5 sacks, but also leads the conference in tackles-for-loss (22.5) and forced fumbles (seven).

Gurley, who has rushed for 1,260 yards and 16 touchdowns, is the first Georgia freshman to be named to the All-SEC first-team since receiver A.J. Green in 2008.

Three other Georgia players made the second-team: Nose tackle John Jenkins, linebacker Alec Ogletree and safety Bacarri Rambo. The latter two missed the first four games of the season because of suspension.

Quarterback Aaron Murray was an honorable mention. That means he got at least one vote for first-team, because the way it works is every voter just votes for first team, and not anything else.

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, was the first-team quarterback, and the SEC offensive player of the year, as well the SEC freshman of the year. Alabama's A.J. McCarron was second team quarterback.

Kevin Sumlin, the first-year head coach at Texas A&M, was the SEC coach of the year. Here is the entire list:
