Newnan man accused of shooting Fort Valley woman arrested in Florida

A Newnan man accused of shooting a Fort Valley woman has been arrested in Florida on drug trafficking charges, police said. Brandon Strickland, 27, is accused of shooting and seriously injuring Dandra McKay, 27, at her home in the 400-block of Anderson Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Dec. 1, said Fort Valley Public Safety Director Lawrence Spurgeon. Strickland is being held at the Alachua County jail in Florida on charges of felony trafficking of more than 14 grams of methamphetamine and misdemeanor marijuana possession of less than 20 grams, jail records show. He is being held on a $110,000 bond on the trafficking charges.

A Newnan man accused of shooting a Fort Valley woman during the weekend has been arrested in Florida on drug trafficking charges, police said.

Brandon Strickland, 27, is accused of shooting and seriously injuring Dandra McKay, 27, at her home in the 400-block of Anderson Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, said Fort Valley Public Safety Director Lawrence Spurgeon.

She was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia where she was initially in critical condition after being shot three times in the abdomen, Spurgeon said.

“She’s pulling through,” he said.

Strickland is being held at the Alachua County jail in Florida on charges of felony trafficking of more than 14 grams of methamphetamine and misdemeanor marijuana possession of less than 20 grams, jail records show. He is being held on a $110,000 bond on the trafficking charges.

Strickland and McKay have a child together, Spurgeon said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, he said.
