Early bowl thoughts

Belk Bowl

Duke (6-6) vs. Cincinnati (9-3): David Cutcliffe can REALLY coach, and he has done a terrific job building a steady program at Duke. A bowl win would be the next step.

Russell Athletic Bowl

Virginia Tech (6-6) vs. Rutgers (9-3): Virginia Tech has to be one of the most disappointing teams in the country. The key will be how motivated the Hokies are to be in this game.

Music City Bowl

Vanderbilt (8-4) vs. N.C. State (7-5): The first of the SEC-ACC matchups, and it could be a good one, except that the Wolfpack are in shambles after Tom O'Brien was fired.

Sun Bowl

Georgia Tech (6-7) vs. Southern Cal (7-5): The Yellow Jackets head to El Paso for the second straight year and have a chance to redeem themselves for their loss to Utah last year. Southern Cal needs to redeem itself for this entire season.

Chick-fil-A Bowl

LSU (10-2) vs. Clemson (10-2): Another SEC-ACC matchup. This one should be interesting, pitting Clemson's high-powered offense against LSU's stingy defense, if Clemson can match LSU's physical play.

Gator Bowl

Mississippi State (8-4) vs. Northwestern (9-3): The Bulldogs get one more chance to do something they haven't done all year ... beat a good team.

Capital One Bowl

Georgia (11-2) vs. Nebraska (10-3): This matchup looks like a mismatch in the Bulldogs' favor.

Outback Bowl

South Carolina (10-2) vs. Michigan (8-4): The Gamecocks look to cap a terrific season with an 11th win.

Orange Bowl

Northern Illinois (12-1) vs. Florida State (11-2): This is the worst bowl matchup in some time.

Sugar Bowl

Florida (11-1) vs. Louisville (10-2): The Gators will be big favorites against the Cardinals.

Cotton Bowl

Texas A&M (10-2) vs. Oklahoma (10-2): The Aggies leave the Big 12 and then get matched up with a Big 12 team in their first season in the SEC?

BBVA Compass Bowl

Pittsburgh (6-6) vs. Mississippi (6-6): How does this AWFUL game get played so late in the bowl schedule?

BCS National Championship

Notre Dame (12-0) vs. Alabama (12-1): The Crimson Tide will bring home another national title in a blowout.
