WMAZ parent company reaches deal with DirecTV

Published: December 1, 2012

DirecTV and the parent company of WMAZ in Macon have reached a last-minute agreement that will prevent interruption of local program, according a Saturday e-mail from a DirecTV spokesman.

Gannett Co., owner of WMAZ, and the satellite company had until midnight Friday to strike a new deal regarding DirecTV’s rights to retransmit Gannett broadcasting stations.

Robert Mercer, of DirecTV, wrote in an e-mail that terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

It’s a repeat of the negotiations between Gannett Co. and DISH Network in October, when the two companies reached a multi-year agreement on the last day of the old contract. Programming interruption was avoided then, as well.
