Wine tasting to benefit Jay’s Hope

Published: November 23, 2012

It’s not quite 99 bottles of beer, but 40 bottles of wine might still make their winner sing. One lucky person or team will take those bottles home from Thursday’s Blind Wine Tasting at the Blacksmith Shop.

The event is presented by the Young Supporters for Jay’s Hope to benefit that foundation in its efforts to help children fighting cancer and their families.

“Most of the time people come as teams of four, but individuals are also welcome. We usually have about 40 teams. They bring four bottles (of the same kind) of their favorite wine, either red or white. One goes into the winnings, and the other three are wrapped and numbered,” said Stephanie Steinbart, Jay’s HOPE development director. “Everyone takes their cup and tastes all the wines, then votes on their favorite, and the winner takes home the wine set aside for that.”

The evening also will include music by Gringo Grande, a wine raffle and light hors d’oeuvres. The team registration deadline is Monday. Visit www.jayshope.org to register.
