A 35-year-old man was critically wounded when he was hit by a car late Sunday morning on Emery Highway in east Macon.

Macon police say Dennis Williams ran into the path of a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis in front of the entrance to the Ocmulgee National Monument just before noon.

Williams, who was headed to a Reese Street convenience store across the highway, was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

In a news release from the Macon Police Department, there was no mention of other injuries or pending charges against the 74-year-old driver of the Grand Marquis.
