Middle Georgia Football Playoff Capsules
Class A-Private
FPD (6-4)
Head coach: Greg Moore.
Power ranking: No. 13.
Playoff opponent: at Brookstone (8-2), Nov. 23
Key win: Pike County
Key players: QB Brooks Stroud, Sr. (1,073 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, 674 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns); DB Kaleb Fuller, Sr.; LB Will Black, Sr.; WR Scott McCormick, Sr. (723 yards, seven touchdowns); RB Darron Moore, Sr. (678 yards, eight touchdowns)
Scouting report: FPDs offense really thrives under the leadership of Stroud. The senior quarterback is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in Middle Georgia. Stroud, however, has missed the past two games with a concussion. The Class A schools are off this week, so Stroud will have three weeks of recovery time, but his status is still unknown. Moore and McCormick give the Vikings two more dynamic offensive threats. The Vikings have been tough to beat when they limit turnovers.
Class A-Public
Dooly County (8-2)
Head coach: Jimmy Hughes.
Power ranking: No. 5.
Playoff opponent: vs. Turner County (6-4), Nov. 23.
Key wins: Macon County, Americus-Sumter, Brookstone
Key players: DL Montravius Adams, Sr.; QB A.J. Smith, Sr. (1,438 passing yards, 12 touchdowns); RB Chanin Hamilton, Soph. (897 rushing yards, nine touchdowns); WR Courtney Clark, Jr. (613 receiving yards, seven touchdowns)
Scouting report: The Bobcats have a massive and talented defensive line that dominates the line of scrimmage on most nights. Adams is one of the top prospects in the country. Smith leads a balanced offense, which may be hitting its stride. Hamilton has improved week-to-week and is closing in on 1,000 yards for the season last week. Clark and Tyrone Anderson give the Bobcats two outside threats at receiver.
Hancock Central (5-5)
Head coach: Zachary Harris.
Power ranking: No. 16.
Playoff opponent: at Lincoln County (9-1), Nov. 21.
Key wins: East Laurens, GMC
Key players: RB Deonte Franklin, Sr.; RB Daryus Ransom, Sr.
Scouting report: The Bulldogs have their most wins since 2006. They have a rematch against Lincoln County in the playoffs. They lost to the Red Devils 27-8 on Nov. 9.
Wilcox County (8-2)
Head coach: Mark Ledford
Power ranking: No. 2.
Playoff opponent: vs. Greenville (5-5), Nov. 23.
Key wins: Wilkinson County, Dooly County, Turner County, Irwin County
Key players: QB Makail Grace, Sr. (2,481 passing yards, 25 touchdowns; 629 rushing yards, nine touchdowns); WR Johnathan Howard, Sr. (1,231 yards, 14 touchdowns); WR Quin Tisdol, Soph.
Scouting report: The Patriots have been nearly unstoppable through the air. Howard is putting together one of the best receiving seasons in state history. He stands 424 yards away from Demarco Robinsons state single-season record. His 82 catches are only 20 away from the state record. The defense can be scored on. The Patriots have allowed 21 or more points in five of their 10 games.
Wilkinson County (7-3)
Head coach: James Hagins.
Power ranking: No. 9.
Playoff opponent: at Miller County (8-2), Nov. 23
Key wins: Landmark Christian, Aquinas, FPD.
Key players: QB David Whipple; WR Antonio Whipple; RB Tyler Franklin.
Scouting report: The Warriors werent helped much in the power rankings by a win over one-win Warren County last week. They finished 0.03 behind Miller County, so theyll have to make the drive to Southwest Georgia instead of playing the Pirates in Irwinton. Whipple has had a banner season, shredding defenses for much of the year.
