Middle Georgia football playoff capsules
Class AAA
Dodge County (5-5)
Head coach: Rex Hodges.
Region seed: No. 4 in 3-AAA.
Playoff opponent: at Carver-Columbus (9-1)
Key wins: Swainsboro.
Key players: RB Marcus Brown, Sr. (879 yards, 12 touchdowns); RB Marlek Lamb, Jr. (547 yards, 4 touchdowns); QB Cole Honeycutt, Jr. (625 yards, 5 touchdowns).
Scouting report: Following a 3-0 start, Dodge County won just two of its final seven games. But last weeks win at Swainsboro turned out to be an elimination game for the fourth playoff spot out of the five-team Region 3-AAA. Dodge Countys reward for beating Swainsboro? A date at Carver-Columbus, the No. 2 team in the final AP Class AAA poll and the Region 2-AAA champion. Dodge County scored a combined 30 points in its five losses, while Carver scored more than 30 points in six different games this season.
Peach County (9-1)
Head coach: Chad Campbell.
Region seed: No. 2 in Region 2-AAA.
Playoff opponent: vs. Jefferson County (4-6).
Key wins: Baldwin, Perry, Pike County, Warner Robins.
Key players: WR Demarcus Robinson, Sr. (637 yards, nine touchdowns); QB Greg Williams, Jr. (1,662 yards, 17 touchdowns); RB Keyshawn Lowe, Soph. (820 yards, nine touchdowns); TE Malcolm Colvin, Sr.; C Matthew Winters, Sr.
Scouting report: Peach County seems to be one of the most focused teams come playoff time. The Trojans rarely get caught sleeping by inferior opponents. Robinson and Lowe have battled injuries, and the Trojans arent the same offense without them. Robinson is one of the biggest difference makers at receiver in the state. Lowe has been very solid this season, as has Williams. The Peach County offensive line might be suffering if Winters cant play. He hurt his knee last week and wasnt practicing early in the week. The Peach County defense is fast, aggressive and opportunistic.
Washington County (9-1)
Head coach: Joel Ingram.
Region seed: No. 2 in Region 3-AAA.
Playoff opponent: vs. Pike County (6-4).
Key wins: Baldwin, Eagles Landing Christian, ECI, Laney, Lovett, Jefferson County
Key players: QB William Walker, Sr.; OL/DL Michael Selby, Sr.; WR Deonte Latimer, Sr.; RB Melvin Hill, Jr.
Scouting report: The Golden Hawks offense starts and stops with Walker. The dual-threat quarterback willed his team to wins over ELCA and Lovett, and he makes the plays most area quarterbacks cant. Hill and Jukilo Johnson have rotated as the Golden Hawks top rushing options out of the backfield. Selby anchors the offensive and defensive lines. The Golden Hawks defense has overpowered most of their opponents this season.
