Weekend tipoff for college basketball season

This week on The Morning Show, we previewed the SEC basketball season with Jerry Tipton of Kentucky.com, the ACC season with David Glenn of the ACC Sports Journal and the Mercer season with Bears head coach Bob Hoffman.

 

Preseason picks

Georgia was picked eighth by the media members who cover the SEC (Kentucky was picked to win the conference).

Georgia Tech was picked ninth by the media members who cover the ACC (N.C. State was picked to win the conference).

Mercer was picked to win the A-Sun by the conference's coaches and media members.

 

Conference notes

SEC: Texas A&M and Missouri make their debut as SEC teams this weekend. ... Johnny Jones takes over as LSU's head coach, while Rick Ray is Mississippi State's new head coach, and Frank Martin is the new head coach at South Carolina. ... Kentucky is ranked third in the AP preseason poll and fifth in the USA Today poll (Florida is 10th in both polls). ... Kentucky had the top-rated recruiting class four the fourth straight year.

ACC: N.C. State, Duke and North Carolina are ranked in the top 11 of the AP preseason poll and the top 12 in the USA Today poll. ... Georgia Tech is the only team in the conference with five starters returning (North Carolina and Florida State each return only one). ... James Johnson takes over as the head coach at Virginia Tech.

 

A-Sun: Mercer is ranked 14th in the CollegeInsider.com mid-major preseason poll. ... Northern Kentucky makes its debut as an A-Sun team this weekend. ... There are no first-year head coaches in the conference this season.
