One dead, three hurt in two-car crash

Published: November 3, 2012

One man died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle accident early Saturday morning.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Hector Perez Rios, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened at about 3 a.m. on Mercer University Drive near Ken’s Stereo Junction and about 500 feet from a fire station. Jones said the firefighters responded immediately and that probably prevented further loss of life.

Rios was a front seat passenger with three other people in a Nissan Sentra that turned into the path of an SUV, Jones said. The Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate the victims.

Two people were in the SUV but were not injured.

The other three in the Nissan Sentra were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia. One is in critical but stable condition and the others are in stable condition.

Jones said he isn’t sure whether the driver of the Nissan Sentra will face charges. The driver was turning into River Bend Apartments, where Rios lived.
