Pregame notes: Weather a factor?

Published: October 27, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The big story in the hours leading up to kickoff will be how much, if any, the weather will affect the game. Right now, the only thing we can safely say is that there won't be rain.

But the wind is a factor, if an uncertain one. The forecast called for wind gusts of around 20 mph, but as of a couple hours before the game it's not a heavy win; instead it's more a steady, light wind, with occasional bursts.

In other words: It shouldn't affect the short passing game or extra points, but deep passes and longer field goals could be interesting. It will also create some interesting decisions: Pass up a field goal and go for it on fourth down? Pass up a punt, worried which direction it will take, and go for it on fourth-and-short?

But things could change before the game - or even during the game.

A few other pregame notes:

- Watts Dantzler is the most notable omission from Georgia's dress list. The sophomore offensive lineman did not have a disclosed injury during the week. (Abry Jones is the biggest name for Georgia out for the game, but we've known that.) There are nine offensive lineman on the 70-man travel roster, with the last guy being walk-on Preston Mobley.

- The official for today's game is Matt Moore, who has worked a game or two of Georgia's already this season.
