Band Spotlight

Back City Woods

Friday at the Armory Ballroom

The Armory Ballroom is one of those secret spots in Macon. You only know it exists if you’ve been there for some sort of special event. Well, this is about as special as it gets: Oktoberfest with Back City Woods and Good Country People. Tickets are $35 and you get food from the Rookery, bottomless beer and great music. Also, a portion of the ticket price goes to the Central Georgia Breast Cancer Center and Paint the Town Pink. Party with a cause. 21 and up. 7 p.m.

Betsy Kingston and the Crowns

Friday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

For a relatively new band, Betsy Kingston has received some pretty high accolades, especially for a band coming from Athens, where it’s hard to get attention. Kingston’s band comes complete with a horn section and seems to bounce between the Muscle Shoals soulful sound to sounds reminiscent of Big Brother and the Holding Company. Kingston’s voice delivers the right stuff to go along with that powerful band. If you like soulful rock ’n’ roll, this is the band to see. 21 and up. 10 p.m. $5.

The Heap

Saturday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

The Hummingbird put together a soulful weekend for Macon this week, bringing in the Heap on Saturday. The Heap is an eight-piece band hailing from Athens. They play a funk and soul mixture that is heavily influenced by Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone and many others that has become popular in the past couple of years in Athens. This is definitely a night of dancing, so call your friends to join in on the good times. 21 and up. 10 p.m. $5.

DJs Wet Paint, Ployd and Squirrelly

Wednesday at Roasted Cafe and Lounge

To celebrate Halloween, Roasted is throwing a dubstep/trap music inspired Halloween party called Trick or Trap. Handling the DJ duties this night will be DJ Ployd from Atlanta, up and coming local DJ Wet Paint and Roasted favorite Rhett Squirrelly. So put on your costumes and get ready for a bass filled night at Roasted. 18 and up. 10 p.m. Free.

Death on Two Wheels

Wednesday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

The Hummingbird celebrates Halloween with a hard rocking show from Atlanta’s hard rocking Death on Two Wheels. Lead singer Trae Vedder sounds like if Bob Seger sang for Dio’s band. His charismatic, high energy, onstage antics are fun to watch and infectious. You’ll be jumping around with the band before you know it. As always, the Hummingbird throws a fun Halloween party complete with costume contest and drink specials, so come ready to party. 21 and up. 10 p.m. $5.
