Betsy Kingston and the Crowns
Friday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom
For a relatively new band, Betsy Kingston has received some pretty high accolades, especially for a band coming from Athens, where its hard to get attention. Kingstons band comes complete with a horn section and seems to bounce between the Muscle Shoals soulful sound to sounds reminiscent of Big Brother and the Holding Company. Kingstons voice delivers the right stuff to go along with that powerful band. If you like soulful rock n roll, this is the band to see. 21 and up. 10 p.m. $5.
The Heap
Saturday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom
The Hummingbird put together a soulful weekend for Macon this week, bringing in the Heap on Saturday. The Heap is an eight-piece band hailing from Athens. They play a funk and soul mixture that is heavily influenced by Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone and many others that has become popular in the past couple of years in Athens. This is definitely a night of dancing, so call your friends to join in on the good times. 21 and up. 10 p.m. $5.
