Georgia back in control of its destiny

Published: October 20, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Before Georgia even begins its game against Kentucky tonight, it's a winner.

Florida's rout of South Carolina puts the Bulldogs back in position to win the SEC East if it can win out. That starts with beating Kentucky, which is a widely-expected result: Georgia is nearly a four-touchdown favorite.

That would set up next week's Georgia-Florida game to be, for all intents, the SEC East championship. Florida remains unbeaten, and Georgia has one loss - to South Carolina, which was why it needed the Gamecocks to lose the past two weeks, at LSU and Florida. And the Bulldogs got their wish.

Head coach Mark Richt had been very vocal about giving permission to fans to root for arch-rival Florida. At a pep rally on Thursday, Richt grabbed the microphone and told the crowd he was a Gator fan this week.

Next week, obviously, that won't be the case.
