Low-income, elderly and handicapped folks who have trouble paying for home heating costs may apply for help through Georgias Energy Assistance Program.
The program opens Nov. 1 for the homebound and elderly (65 years and older). It will open Dec. 3 for all other eligible households if funds are still available, according to a news release.
For those who qualify, one-time payments, averaging $345 per household, will be made to home energy suppliers, the release states.
Interested households must have an income equal to or less than 60 percent of the state median income guidelines. That translates to $40,366 for a family of four, the release states.
Applicants must show proof of income; picture ID and Social Security cards for all household members; and the most recent energy bill.

In Houston County, the number is 328-0333. Appointments will be made by phone only. Dates to apply in Bibb County have not been set yet.
