WARNER ROBINS -- Houston County deputies have arrested two men suspected in a Tuesday home burglary, with one man charged for allegedly trying to poison a dog during the crime.

Donald Gauthier, 31, and Benjamin Salter Jr., 25, were charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, according to a news release issued Wednesday. Gauthier is also charged with cruelty to animals. Both men are at the Houston County jail.

According to the release, deputies responded to a burglary call in the 100 block of Peachtree Boulevard on Tuesday. The culprits had fled, but police dogs tracked their scent through a nearby wooded area -- finding some of the stolen property along the route.

Sgt. Slate Simons found Gauthier and Salter in a vehicle nearby, and an investigation led to their arrests.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Simons at (478) 542-2085 or (478) 542-2080.
