Two boy bands on the way up will close out the Georgia National Fairs arena concerts.
Hot Chelle Rae and Allstar Weekend will be playing Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Reaves Arena.
Hot Chelle Rae is the headliner and Allstar Weekend will be opening, said Michelle Treptow, a spokeswoman for the fair. She described the bands as good pop rock music.
A few years ago, the Georgia National Fair played host to the Jonas Brothers, who appeared in a sold-out concert as the groups popularity was on the rise, Treptow said.
Young kids know their music, she said. Jonas Brothers was just an overwhelming sensation. It was almost like the Beatles. ... It is amazing to see an arena full of mostly girls with their mothers.
Hot Chelle Rae could be that caliber again, Treptow said.
The Nashville-based Hot Chelle Rae comprises Ryan Folles, Nash Overstreet, Ian Keaggy and Jamie Follese. The quartet began playing together in 2005 and hit commercial success with last summers radio hit, Tonight, Tonight.
The song broke into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The band followed that single up with I Like it Like That, which also was a Top 100 hit. Both songs are on the bands Whatever album.
Hot Chelle Rae also garnered attention from Overstreets brother, Chord Overstreet, who plays Sam Evans on the television hit Glee. Chord Overstreet appears in the Tonight, Tonight video, which has gotten nearly 32 million hits on YouTube.
The band is bookending its appearance in Georgia with shows at the South Carolina State Fair and the North Carolina State Fair before heading out for shows in New Zealand, Australia and Japan.
Opening group Allstar Weekend is another boy band consisting of Zachary David Porter, Cameron Michael Quiseng and Michael Allen Martinez. The three, along with former bandmate Nathan Darmody, started playing together in 2007 and had several names before settling on Allstar Weekend.
The band gained attention in 2008 when they were selected for the Radio Disney reality show Next Big Thing. The group came in second in the competition and later signed a contract with Hollywood Records.
The bands debut album, Suddenly Yours, was released in 2010 and followed up in 2011 with All the Way. The band also has songs on several Disney soundtracks and is working on another album with a planned 2013 release.
This year, the band was featured by MTV as One to Watch.
For $25, you have a chance to see ... two up-and-coming acts, Treptow said.
