Day care bus involved in Jones County crash

Published: October 10, 2012

A bus carrying day care children crashed and then overturned Wednesday morning in Jones County.

Injuries were limited to minor scratches and being “shaken up real bad,” said Capt. Billy Mitchell of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.

A “van-type” bus carrying seven children from the Children’s Friend Learning Center was southbound on Morton Road, driven by Anitra Alexander of Gray, Mitchell said.

About 7:45 a.m. Alexander crossed Ga. 18 in front of Thomas Adkinson of Gray, whose pickup was headed east, and the truck collided with the bus, Mitchell said.

“As the bus continued south it went up on its side, and leaned up against a Ford Explorer driven by Rachael Williams of Gray,” he said.

All involved were checked out by paramedics, and the children went back to the day care aboard another Children’s Friend bus, with a paramedic riding along, Mitchell said.

Alexander has been charged with failure to yield, he said.
