Midstate Republicans to hold rally

The Republican parties of Bibb, Houston and Peach counties are hosting a “Restore America Rally” Oct. 6 to elect Mitt Romney as president.

The rally will be held 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Jailhouse Park in downtown Byron. There will be a ceremony honoring veterans and special guest speakers, including former Gov. Sonny Perdue and Attorney General Sam Olens, said Tom Morrill, chairman of the Peach County Republican Party. There also will be several local politicians and candidates there, he said.

The Loose Skrews Band will perform, and there will be food from Chick-fil-A.

Admission is free, and there also will be Romney/Ryan yard signs and bumper stickers available.

Photography contest to help decorate new hospital

Central Georgia Health System is holding a contest for local photographers to have the chance to display their art in the new Peach Medical Center currently under construction.

The contest will run through Oct. 31, and the winning entries will be displayed in the hospital with the photographer’s name under the photo, according to a news release. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places, as well as for the People’s Choice Award, the release states.

“Submitted images should evoke a sense of comfort and peace for patients and their families, and should include wildlife, local landscapes and natural elements, or familiar local architecture,” according to the contest rules. “Images of people will not be considered. Color and black and white images will be accepted.”

Work should be submitted on DVD in the format of .TIF or .JPG and minimum 200 dpi. Send entries to: Medcen Community Health Foundation, Attention: Ellen Terrell, 858 High St., Macon, GA 31201.

There is a limit of 10 submissions per person.

Patriot Golf Day planned

A golf tournament will be held Nov. 9 to provide scholarships for the dependents of injured veterans or those killed in action.

Patriot Golf Day will take place at the Landings Golf Club in Warner Robins. The four-person scramble will have a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be at 11 a.m.

The cost is $60 per player. Veterans are $50 each. Sponsorships are available.

Tuskegee Airman Golf Tournament coming up

The Tuskegee Airmen Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 27 at the Landings Golf Club in Warner Robins.

The tournament, which starts at 9 a.m. with on-site registration at 7:30 a.m., is a fundraiser for the local Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. chapter in Warner Robins. The money will go toward providing scholarships to Middle Georgia youth.

The cost is $65 per person or $260 per team. Mulligans are $5 each.
