Published: October 1, 2012

Several midstate colleges have been awarded the status of being “military friendly schools.”

Fort Valley State University, Georgia Military College, Macon State College, Mercer University, Middle Georgia College and Middle Georgia Technical College all were named to Victory Media’s 2013 Military Friendly Schools list, found online at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com.

Victory Media targets military personnel transitioning into civilian life.

The list consists of “the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus,” according to a news release.

There are 1,739 schools on the list, which was compiled from research and surveys of more than 12,000 Veterans Affairs-approved schools nationwide, according to the release.
