Another night game: Georgia-SC goes to ESPN

Published: September 24, 2012

ATHENS - The showdown between Georgia and South Carolina, which could end up deciding the SEC East, will be a night game.

The SEC announced on Monday that ESPN will televise the game, which will kick off at 7 p.m. That came after CBS selected the LSU-Florida game for its 3:30 p.m. slot that day.

Georgia's visit to Columbia, S.C., should go a long way towards determining the SEC East division winner, although Florida is also part of the discussion now. At a minimum, it will likely be a matchup of top 10 teams, and possibly even top five.

Both No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 South Carolina are double-digit favorites to win this weekend: Georgia at home against Tennessee, and South Carolina at Kentucky.

This will - barring upsets this weekend - be the first Georgia game involving two top 10 teams since 2008, when No. 8 Alabama won at No. 3 Georgia, 41-30, in the now-infamous Blackout game.

Georgia last defeated a top 10 team in 2009, knocking off No. 7 Georgia Tech in Atlanta, 30-24.

South Carolina defeated Georgia twice in a row. Prior to that, the Bulldogs had won seven of eight, including four straight in Columbia.
