ATHENS - Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin started out his appearance on the SEC teleconference by saying he thinks Georgia hasn't had a home night game "in about four years."

Well, except for last week. And a couple years ago against Georgia Tech. And three times in 2009.

But it is accurate that Georgia hasn't had a home SEC night game in awhile: It was Oct. 21, 2009, the Kentucky game. (Which Georgia lost).

It's also accurate that Georgia hasn't kicked off at Sanford Stadium under the lights too often lately: Three times in 2009, once in 2010 and none last year.

Mark Richt's record in night games, home or away, is 33-12.

“I do like playing under the lights. I don’t like waiting for it to get dark, but it’s nice," Richt said. "I think it’s nice for our recruits because they easily have an opportunity to come, especially if kids need to come from some distance. I think there’s more energy at night, and the weather’s beautiful at night this time of year. From what I see, it’s supposed to be another great weather day in that regard. But nothing has really changed for me.

"The night before the game, I travel with the team to the hotel and spend time with them. I come back a little bit earlier, usually when the rest of the coaching staff comes in to work on offense and defense, I’m making my way back for some recruiting and that type of thing. But not much has changed. I know when you play at night, it normally means you’re having a good season, so I’m glad we’re playing at night.”

Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said he felt differently as a player than he does now about day vs. night games.

"I'd love to play Saturday morning, win the game, then watch everybody else sweat," Bobo said, laughing. "There's no fun early in the day watching somebody else sweat and you're still thinking about what you've gotta go through during the game. I asked the players that the other day in a meeting: What do you all like the best? And of course they like night games, 3:30's their favorite. I was the same way when I was a player. There's more electricity in the stadium. But as a coach, man, you wanna win that thing and get it over with."
