Shirley Hills certified for compliance with nutrition standards
The Georgia Department of Education recognized the Houston County school system for compliance with the School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children, which sets nutrition standards for school meals.
Shirley Hills Elementary School was certified by the Georgia Department of Education for compliance with the standards, according to a news release.
Each week, students school lunch must provide one-third of the recommended dietary allowances for protein, vitamins A and C, iron and calcium, and breakfast is required to provide one-fourth.
Lindsey Elementary pre-kindergarten program has one spot that is open
Lindsey Elementary School has one opening in its pre-kindergarten program.
The spot will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a news release.
To enroll, the following must be provided: proof of residency (in-zone and out-of-zone students may apply); birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization Georgia forms 3300 and 3231, the release states.
