Judge will appoint new water authority chairman

Published: September 17, 2012

The Macon Water Authority chairmanship vacated by the death of Frank Amerson on Friday will be filled for the next year by an appointee.

Tony Rojas, the authority’s director, said the authority’s charter indicates that the Bibb County Probate Court judge will appoint a replacement until the next general election. Although a general election is slated for November, that election is already under way and the race can’t be added, said Elaine Carr, Bibb County’s elections supervisor.

Rojas said authority members will discuss possible candidates to suggest to Judge William J. Self II, who will make the one-year appointment.

In the meantime, vice chairman Javors Lucas will serve as chairman.
