A blond-haired little boy pedaled a red bicycle down a Third Street sidewalk Thursday morning.

He made the route past the old Bibb Theatre in downtown Macon and the Stuckey building multiple times, with an American flag attached to his bike flapping in the breeze.

A film crew caught it all on video as part of a national “get out the vote” commercial set to begin airing Oct. 1, said Elliot Dunwody, a member of the Macon Film Commission.

The stretch of Third Street between Poplar and Cherry streets was closed for a few hours Thursday for filming.

Dunwody said scenes from outside Seventh Street’s warehouses and homes on Montpelier Avenue also were used as backdrops for the commercial, funded by a political action committee. Information identifying the committee wasn’t immediately available Thursday.

A representative of Atlanta-based Jayan Films, the company filming the commercial, declined to comment Thursday.

The company’s previous clients include Kellogg’s, Coors, BMW and the London Olympic Committee, according to its website.

Dunwody said a 90-second ad will appear online while a shorter version will be broadcast on TV.

The commercial initially was set to be filmed in Chattanooga, Tenn., and then was moved to Atlanta. At the last minute, Sept. 7, filming was moved to Macon.

“Macon is starting to get a good reputation as a go-to town,” Dunwody said. “We’re starting to make a name for ourselves as a film-friendly place.”
