Sara Lee to change name on south Bibb distribution center

Published: September 6, 2012

The Sara Lee name on the distribution center in south Bibb County is about to change.

Sara Lee Corp. has announced it chose Hillshire Brands Co. as the new name for its North American business, according to a news release.

Sara Lee became two independent publicly-traded companies at the end of June. D.E. Master Blenders 1753 will focus on international coffee and tea and Hillshire Brands will focus on meat-centric food products and food service operations. Hillshire Brands will include several market-leading consumer brands including Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farms, Ball Park, Aidells, Gallo Salame and State Fair, the release stated.

“Hillshire Brands represents our strong heritage in quality and great taste as well as our ambitions for growing our portfolio of iconic brands in the future,” Sean Connolly CEO of Sara Lee North American Retail and Foodservice, said in the release.

The Hillshire name was inspired by the Hillshire Farms brand, which Sara Lee acquired in 1971.
