Bibb County commissioners could decide Tuesday, Sept. 11, who will be the new Animal Welfare director.
Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart told commissioners he will present his final choice to the rest of the commission, as well as members of a citizens committee that served as the search committee. The job has been vacant since the county assumed control of operation from the city July 1.
Currently, county Chief Administrative Officer Steve Layson serves as interim director.
The two finalists for the position are Sarah A. Tenon, director of the Mobile County Animal Control in Mobile, Ala.; and Richard K. Rice, who stepped down as executive vice president of the Atlanta Humane Society this summer.
Layson said the board can either approve Harts choice, approve the other candidate, or re-open the process if neither candidate is considered satisfactory.
