ATHENS - Todd Gurley's career is officially off to a decent start.
Gurley was named the SEC co-freshman of the week, sharing the honor with fellow tailback T.J. Yeldon of Alabama.
Georgia says Gurley is the first player in school history to receive the SEC freshman of the week honor in his first game.
Last year, tailback Isaiah Crowell was named SEC freshman of the week four times, the first time coming in his second game, after the loss to South Carolina.
Gurley ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns, on just eight carries, and also had a 100-yard kick return touchdown. That was the fourth 100-yard kick return in Georgia history; the first three were by the recently-graduated Brandon Boykin.
Yeldon led the Crimson Tide with 111 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, as his team trounced MIchigan 41-14.
Gurley was the only Georgia player to receive an award in the SEC's weekly honors. Quarterback Aaron Murray was one of 16 players mentioned in the "other outstanding performances" by the SEC.
